Creative Specialist
Barter Theatre is seeking a Creative Specialist. The Creative Specialist is responsible for representing Barter Theatre’s brand of professional theatre. The position is responsible for all aspects of photography for Barter Theatre including but not limited to PR, production and event photography. In addition, the position designs all graphics and consults on all design projects including but not limited to ads, emails, mailers, programs, posters, promotional items, logos and invitations. The specialist maintains and updates the company website and web presence with photography, graphics, copy and advertisements and aids in troubleshooting computers and the network. They assist all planning meetings and strategy sessions and support various graphic design and photography projects within all departments. Qualified candidates will have a portfolio that exhibits the qualifications above.

Props Intern

Barter Theatre (founded 1933) a full-time, year-round AEA resident repertory company of theatre artists, a founding member of LORT, located in historic Abingdon, Virginia is seeking a Props Intern.

Ideal applicant would be a motivated and creative self-starter eager to gain skills in a professional setting.  Some Props experience in carpentry, maintenance and organization of Properties Inventory is desirable. Show maintenance and preparation a plus. This position will work under the supervision of the Props Master and Asst. Props Master. 

Historic Barter Theatre offers a wide variety of productions including world premieres, developing new works, musicals and classics in two newly renovated theatre spaces. We value a collaborative work environment.

The Barter Players

Marketing

Barter Theatre Announces Auditions for College Students for it's 2012 Season and The Barter Players

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CAREFULLY:

IT IS REQUIRED THAT YOU SIGN UP IN ADVANCE.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 11th, 2012

9:30 A.M. Registration for A.M. slot
10:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.   Acting and singing auditions A.M.
12:30 P.M.– 2:00 P.M    Callbacks and interviews from A.M.
2 P.M.  Registration for P.M. slot
2:30 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.   Acting and singing auditions  P.M.
5:00 P.M. - 6:30 P.M/ Callbacks and interviews from P.M.

The auditions will take place at the Wellmont Regional Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast State in Blountville, TN.

When you sign up for an audition slot, you choose either the am or the pm slot. If you choose the am slot, arrive at 9:30am and plan to stay as late as 2pm. If you choose the pm slot, arrive at 2pm and plan to stay as late as 6:30pm. You will have approximately 5 minutes for your audition (first come, first seen), after which, you will be asked to stay for the callbacks or allowed to leave.                     

ACTING AND SINGING AUDITIONS

We would like to see either one or two monologues no more than ninety seconds each.  If you will be doing two monologues please make sure that they contrast in some way.  PLEASE REMEMBER: ABSOLUTELY NO MONOLOGUES LONGER THAN NINETY SECONDS. 

We would like to hear one verse and one chorus of a song, or, sixteen bars of a song.  Occasionally we ask for additional, contrasting songs so we suggest you come prepared for that possibility.  Accompanist will be provided.  No recorded accompaniment or a cappella singing. You must bring your own sheet music with full piano accompaniment part - no lead sheets or vocal only sheet music. All music should be written in key in which you plan to sing it.  No on site transposing.

Please bring one copy of your picture and resume. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION DESCRIBES WHAT WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR IN THESE AUDITIONS

We will not be looking for any actors under the age of 18 (male or female) at this time.  Please check the website at a later date for any youth auditions.

If you are not available for the 2012 season, we prefer that you wait until our 2013 auditions to be seen. 

WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR:

** The Barter Players: Non-AEA; College graduates or equivalent experience; Pay, insurance, and housing provided; Year-round; Brochures available.

** Apprentice Company:  Non-AEA; College undergraduates or equivalent experience; No pay but housing is provided; Summer only; Brochures available.

** Local and non-local jobbers:  Various individual roles for a single show or single repertory.

** Possible replacements and understudies for the 2012 season.

PRODUCTION AND REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

The performance dates of our 2012 season and more information about each show can be found at our website.  Brochures are also available at the audition site.  Rehearsals for most plays begin approximately six – eight weeks before they open.  Most actors will participate in two productions during the same repertory. 

We ask that you sign up for an audition slot for any part of this audition.

SIGN UP AFTER JANUARY 15:

To sign up for an audition slot: email Katy Brown at barterplayers@bartertheatre.com after January 15th with the following information: Your name, email, telephone number, and dif you want to audition in the a.m. or p.m. slot. Please put "College Audition" as the heading for your email.

Availability is on a first come basis- you will receive a confirmation email. No sign ups before January 15th will be honored.

General Casting Information

Barter holds auditions in New York each year through Paul Russell Casting and is in attendance at UPTA in Memphis every February. Depending on the year and the roles we are seeking, we may also be at auditions in Washington DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Asheville, and area universities.
