A Q&A with Director Evalyn Baron

Why have audiences loved Little Shop of Horrors?

The music is infectiously tuneful, and the story is truly silly and wonderful: in the end, it’s a swell love story: the story of a boy, a girl and a very large plant!

What do you enjoy most about directing musicals and this music in particular?

I love directing musicals because the good ones sing from the human heart of lives that are full of emotion and caring! I love musicals because they wear their emotions on their sleeves for all to see and hear, a rare thing in our world today.

As a director, what are you most looking forward to as you work on this piece?

Telling the story in a way that is truthful so that people see the seriousness in our silly lives and the silliness in what they take too seriously.

What do you see as the main message of this show?

That true love is a healing thing, not a hurting thing.
And that you must be careful what you feed your foliage.

What are five words you think of when you think about this show?

fun....tuneful....yearning....seriously silly.....rollicking...romantic
