More of the Story...
All hail Jean Shepherd! When he wrote down his memories of his late 1930’s childhood, he somehow captured all of our Christmases. Because, I don’t know about you, but as much as I love Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, and The Gift of the Magi- Mr. Shepherd’s stories nail it for what it felt like being a kid at my house.more >
Show Reviews
By all rights, the Barter Theatre’s stage version of the classic movie, A Christmas Story, should never have worked. Even if the director, Katy Brown, had used actual children in the roles of Ralphie, Schwartz, Flick, Randy and the rest—which she did not—it should still have stretched our suspension of disbelief beyond the breaking point because all of us are so familiar with the film, which seems to have been omnipresent during November and December since 1983 when it was first screened—often repeated in 24-hour marathons of leg lamps, Red Ryder bb guns, obnoxious little brothers who eat like piggies and evil shopping mall elves.more > — Robert McKinney, Bristol Herald Courier, www.tricities.com
