Thoughts on Shakespeare’s Othellomore >
CIVILIZATION vs CHAOS and THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS
Of the productions of Shakespeare’s plays throughout history, Othello has remained one of his most popular and most often produced. And there is very good reason for its appeal.
Most think of Othello as a story of love and jealousy, betrayal and envy.

Barter Theatre’s current production of Othello is part of the national initiative “Shakespeare for a New Generation” sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest. Designed to make Shakespeare more accessible to middle and high school students, it represents the largest funding of Shakespeare in American history.more > — Jim Quesenberry, Washington County News
The man, the Moor who is Othello, is an exceedingly competent, intelligent leader, a general – confident in his position directing a NATO force in present-day Afghanistan. His superiors have recruited him, a black man from outside the established military rank and of other nationality, to take over the campaign in progress, effectively being brought in as a “ringer” when things are going badly.more > — Lynn McKinney, Bristol Herald Courier

Othello
William Shakespeare; Adapted by Richard Rose
Shakespeare's legendary tragedy filled with power, love, jealousy and betrayal comes to life. Othello, a celebrated general yet an outsider, shares a limitless, passionate love with the aristocrat Desdemona, and they marry. All would be bliss if not for the jealous machinations of Othello's confidant Iago, whose vicious plot destroys all it touches. The role of Othello will be played by a special guest performer! Barter Theatre's production is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national initiative sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest.
