2012 Annual Fund Campaign

Help Support Barter Theatre

Thank you for your generosity. With your help, Barter Theatre's 2011 Annual Fund Campaign reached 72% of goal.

More than 900 donors gave between October 1 and December 31, 2011 to help with this endeavor.

We sincerely thank those donors who made multiple gifts in 2011. We also warmly welcome and appreciate the 537 individuals who chose to make a first-time gift. We are proud and extremely gratified with your response.

Since the total goal was not achieved, Barter Theatre will be concentrating on our core programs in 2012.

Barter Theatre’s Annual Fund for Artistic Fund is a year-round effort. The Annual Fund supports all aspects of Barter’s operations from the high quality performances you have come to expect to the Student Matinee programs offered to more than 40,000 regional students.

To see your gift at work first-hand, please contact Barter’s Advancement Team by email at advancementassoc@bartertheatre.com or by calling 276.619.3315 to sign up for a behind-the-scenes tour of Barter’s operations.

We look forward to seeing you in the theatre again soon.

"No one made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little."  ~ Edmund Burke

"I've supported the Barter Theatre for years because it is a special and unique resource that we're blessed to have here in southwest Virginia. It's a great cultural opportunity for residents in our coalfield communities, and it brings visitors and tourism dollars to the area, which has a tangible economic impact. Plus, the performances are always
well done...and just plain fun." ~Michael Quillen, CEO & President, Alpha Natural Resources

Foundation Giving

Grants from local and national foundations play an important role in the work of supporting innovative programs like:

Distance Learning Program - funded by Verizon and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. The first of its kind in the nation, Barter is able to offer, free of charge, educational workshops to high schools in Southwestern Virginia.

Young Playwrights Festival - funded by the Olin and Muriel Prather, Crutchfield and Bank of America Foundations, this annual high school playwriting competition sees more than 120 entries yearly from high school students in Northeast Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia and West Virginia.

Capital Improvements to the Barter Inn, the Barter Scene Shop and Porterfield Square provided by The McGlothlin Foundation and the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification Foundation are vital to sustaining top quality artists and technicians and to providing our patrons with the best experience possible.
