For the 1st time, due to popular demand at all other times of the year, Barter is offering The Winter Class Series 2010, beginning February 9th.  The Winter Class Series will run through March. Enrollments are limited and classes will fill up quickly, so please call soon!

ACTING 101 – Back To Basics NEW!

AGES:           6th – 8th graders

The exciting and very popular Wendy Piper is BACK, teaching young actors how to audition and how to feel comfortable talking in front of others. ADULT ACTING CLASS – SESSION #3

AGES:            Adult & College
WHEN:           Mondays, February 15 – March 29

Newcomers are welcome to join this core group of Adult Actors to sharpen skills, refresh basics, work on important audition techniques, monologues and songs, as well as explore and rehearse scenes from good theatre and film scripts under professional circumstances. Plays from Barter’s 2010 Season will also be featured.  Outside rehearsal time with scene partner is required.

Popular actress and professional acting coach Evalyn Baron continues working with students from previous classes and welcomes new actors to the class at all times. A Tony-nominated actress and Broadway veteran, Evalyn’s been part of the Barter Acting Company for many years and always looks forward to working with the community. This is a special opportunity for anyone interested in acting.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

AGES:          K – 2nd graders
WHEN:         Tuesdays, February 9 – March 30
TIME:            4:30 pm. – 5:30 p.m.

Get your child moving, creating and learning about performing in front of an audience in this special class for kids. Theatre games, original scenes, stories and exercises are used to give children the benefit of live theatre; self-confidence, fun and friends are included! Since each class series is entirely unique, new students as well as returnees from previous Creative Movement classes are welcome. Katie Becker, popular teacher from Barter Players and last fall’s classes, returns to teach her favorite age group!

BEGINNING THEATRICAL DANCE  NEW!

Wendy Piper is BACK! Barter is always looking for children who can dance or move well, and since there are so many different styles in Theatre Dance, we felt we must give students a good grounding from the very beginning. Therefore, for the 1st time ever, a class is offered to get kids dancing and to prepare them for the more advanced classes taught by Barter Choreographer Amanda Aldridge later in the year. Spaces will fill up quickly for this highly popular and exciting teacher’s class.

THE BASICS OF TECHNICAL THEATRE  NEW!

AGES:          6th – 12th graders
WHEN:         Thursdays, February 11 – March 25
TIME:            4:30 pm. – 6:00 p.m.

David Alford, a very popular teacher, focuses on what happens behind the scenes at a theatre like Barter, all the way from Stage Management to Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Props, Costumes, Make-Up and more! Students will get a good taste of ways to get involved in theatre other than being on the stage as a performer, and they will gain a familiarity with how things are done by being asked to do it themselves! Barter Technical Shop tours are included. This is a really “hands-on” class, so kids should come ready to learn and grow! Class supplies are included in tuition.

ACTING WITH MUSIC

AGES:          3rd – 5th graders
WHEN:         Fridays, February 12 – March 26
TIME:            4:30 pm. – 6:00 p.m.

Taught by popular teacher Katie Becker, as it was last fall, this class really trains students in the ways of music specifics, like reading notes, relating lyrics to the music, using rhythm and percussion to tell a story - what the story of a song means. The final class on this one is so much fun to watch, and of course, families are invited!  Music provided.
