Barter Theatre would like to remind our patrons that there will be heavy construction on Interstate 81 between Exits 10 and 19 from July 20 through mid-August. Likewise, the Northbound exit ramp on Exit 14 will be closed from July 27 until Aug. 11. Because of this construction there will be heavy traffic delays, particularly on the Northbound side of I-81, which may lead to traffic delays of up to one hour. We would recommend anyone who may be traveling this route allow themselves plenty of extra time to make up for the delays in order to arrive on time. We wouldn't want anyone to miss a part of the show!
An alternate route for patrons coming from Bristol on I-81 Southbound, going North (towards Roanoke) would be to take Exit 7 and follow State Highway 11 (Lee Highway) to Barter Theatre. An alternate route for patrons traveling from Johnson City would be to take Roan Street to Highway 11 E to US 421 onto TN 44/VA 75. This route will lead patrons into Abingdon via Cummings Street and completely avoid the interstate construction.
Patrons on I-81 Northbound, going South (toward Bristol) would be advised to take Exit 22 or 24 and follow Hillman Highway to East Main Street in Abingdon and right to Barter Theatre.
Each of these alternate routes could take between 10-25 minutes longer than the usual travel time on I-81, depending on traffic.
Barter Theatre appreciates the patience and understanding of its patrons as efforts are being made to improve travel in the town of Abingdon and Washington County.
